3 Easy Steps to Get Your Gas BBQ Ready for Spring

As the flowers start to bloom, we know that can only mean one thing: spring is on the way! With warmer weather comes the fun of grilling season. The great thing about your gas BBQ is that it’s so easy to fire it up at the first sign of nice weather. No need to wait for summer to start grilling!

Follow these 3 easy steps to get your gas BBQ ready for spring today:

1. Cleaning – If you cleaned your BBQ well after your last end of summer bash and stored it under a grill cover, this should not be a big project. But if life got in the way, and those end-of-season tasks were neglected…you might need to allocate a little more time to the spring cleaning. Either way, here are the basic tasks:

  • Scrape the cooking grate surface thoroughly
  • Make sure the grease trap is clean
  • Wipe down the side burners
  • Wash the outside of the BBQ to clean off all dirt, dust, and pollen and get it sparkling clean for the new season

2. Check Components – Now is the time to do a complete inspection of the components of your gas BBQ to make sure everything is safe and functioning properly. Here is a checklist:

  • Inspect the hoses between the barbeque and the patio gas tank for cracks in the tubing or failing seals.
    • Tip: If a leak is suspected, coat the outside of the tubing with washing-up liquid. Bubbles will form when the gas is turned on if there is a flaw in the hose.
  • Be sure there are no spiderwebs or insect nests in the venturi tubes.
  • Tighten all screws.
  • Make certain that all burners and handles are secure.
  • Ensure you have a full tank of gas so you are ready to start grilling!

3. Order Replacement Components – If your inspection turned up any problems, order the necessary replacement parts now. Remember to check your accessories while you’re at it. Common parts to replace include:

  • Rusted grates.
  • Damaged hoses.
  • Cracked seals.
  • Side burners with holes.
  • Missing knobs.
  • Accessories: grill cover, cleaning brush, grilling utensils, etc.

With your gas BBQ cleaned and ready to go, you will be ready to host your first barbeque of the season! Looking for ideas on what to grill? Check out some of our favorite recipes for inspiration.
